For decades Marka Moser was a mainstay at the Vail Dance Festival. All who knew her were aware that if they wanted to catch up and see her, all they needed to do was attend a Vail Dance Festival performance and she would be there.

Marka’s contributions to the Festival started from the very beginning, in 1989, with her work as a local photographer and reporter for the Vail Trail newspaper. She was responsible for capturing, in frame, many of the Festival’s greatest early moments.

She simply loved dance. Along with attending Vail Dance Festival events, she never missed a dance performance at the Vilar Performing Arts Center, or from the Vail Valley Academy of Dance.

Her support and passion for the Festival was very helpful in promoting and spreading information about our cherished event. Her infectious love of the artform helped establish the Festival’s reputation as among the finest in the world.

Marka passed in 2023, and the community gathered on February 19, 2024, at Donovan Pavilion in Vail, to remember Marka for all her many contributions to our local community, including raising a family of four, contributing to environmental and conservation initiatives, and promoting and celebrating her love of the arts.

We are grateful to have known her and are very appreciative of everything she was, and everything she stood for.
